Brazilian brands participate in footwear trade fair in Atlanta

The brands Bottero, Pegada, Hanna Carmela, Shoetherapy, and Petite Jolie will be at the U.S. trade fair Atlanta Shoe Market from February 20 to 22. The event takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. It is regarded as the ideal location for brands that wish to penetrate the U.S. market through qualified local distributors, representatives, and agents. The Brazilian participation will be supported by the Brazilian Footwear, footwear exports promotion program developed by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

Ruisa Scheffel, an analyst of Abicalçados' Trade Promotion unit, highlights that the focus of the U.S. trade show is very commercial and that in February last year it generated more than USD 1.6 million for Brazilian participants. “Because it is held by SESTA, an association that represents local distributors and agents with more than 1.3 thousand members, the investment in the fair ends up being very affordable. Besides, it assists foreign exhibitors in the search for local partners since brands can present themselves to members of the Association through a form,” says Scheffel.

A historic major market for Brazilian footwear abroad, the United States imported 9.3 million pairs in 2020. They generated USD 137.8 million, decreases of 22.1% and 30.8%, respectively, compared to 2019. The expectation of growth in footwear exports for the current year is 14.9%. There is also the possibility of an important increase in the United States, especially considering the resumption of in-person trade shows in that country.
