First bimonthly sums up to USD 209 million in footwear exports

Data prepared by the Brazilian Association of footwear industries (Abicalçados) indicate that, in February, 13.58 million pairs were shipped, which generated USD 108 million, high both in volume (+36.2%) and revenue (+75.5%) compared to the same month last year. With the result, in the bimonthly period, the footwear sector accumulates the export of 27.57 million pairs for USD 209.23 million, increases in volume (+40%) and in dollars (+70.8%).

The CEO of Abicalçados, Haroldo Ferreira, highlights that the result of the two-month period is the best since 2011. “The year 2022 is the recovery of revenues generated with shipments, with recomposition of the average price in all segments. International demand is heated and there is a tendency, especially in the North American market, to migrate their footwear imports from China to Brazil, both due to the trade war between the two giants as due to the increase in freight cost from Asia and the need to diversify suppliers due to global uncertainties”, the executive said, pointing out that the number also shows an important recovery before the pre-pandemic, in 2019. In revenue generated, Brazil exported 14.8% more than in the same period that year.

Destination
The main destination of Brazilian footwear abroad during the first two-month period, the United States imported 4 million pairs, for which USD 60.58 million were paid, higher results both in volume (+97.8%) and revenue (+130.2%) compared to the same interim of 2021. According to Ferreira, almost a third of the revenue from shipments came from the United States, the best result in 16 years.

The second main destination of Brazilian footwear in the bimonthly was Argentina, where 1.66 million were shipped for USD 18.1 million, highs of 39.2% and 78.2%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

France was the third destination for Brazilian footwear in the first two months. In the two months, the French imported 2.28 million pairs, for which USD 14.14 million were paid, increments of 67.6% and 28.5%, respectively, compared to the corresponding interval of 2021.

In the bimonthly, the main exporter of footwear was Rio Grande do Sul. Accounting for 43.5% of the total generated with shipments in the period, the state sent 6.93 million pairs abroad, which generated a revenue of USD 91 million.
