Shoe exports added up $ 320.65 million January through March

Data prepared by the Brazilian Association of Footwear Industries (Abicalçados) indicate that, in March, 13.17 million pairs were shipped abroad, which generated US$ 111.6 million, higher results both in volume (+57.5%) and in revenue (+7%) compared to the corresponding month of last year. Thus, in the quarter, footwear exports have already totaled 40.74 million pairs, generating US$ 320.65 million, increases of 27.3% and 65.8%, respectively, compared to the same period of 2021.

The CEO of Abicalçados, Haroldo Ferreira, points out that there is a warming of international demand, especially in the United States, the main destination of Brazilian footwear abroad. ”We are registering a significant demand from large US players, who are seeking to replace Chinese imports due to high freight costs and also to escape the surcharge (of 7,5%) applied to footwear from the Asian country," he said.

In addition to the increase in shipments to the United States, footwear companies have recorded good results in exports to their neighbors in Latin America, which has also been reporting concerns about the increase in freight costs from Asia. “There is an international issue, of increasing values for transport, which has been inhibiting imports from Asia. In this scenario, the Brazilian footwear industry appears as the main alternative, because it is the largest outside Asia and, above all, because it has the capacity to meet international demand with quality, design and sustainability”, adds Ferreira.
